Big Data SQL 3.0 alargado a todas as platafornas

The unprecedented explosion in data that can be made useful to enterprises – from the Internet of Things, to the social streams of global customer bases – can create tremendous value. However, with the enormous possibilities of Big Data, there can also be enormous complexity.

Oracle Big Data Appliance was introduced by Oracle addressing the complexity and bringing big data solutions to mainstream enterprises. With Oracle BDA came Big Data SQL, as Oracle's unique approach to providing unified query over data in Oracle Database, Hadoop, and select NoSQL datastores. While other SQL on Hadoop databases required all data on Hadoop, meaning potentially having to move existing DW data out of security to a Hadoop environment, Big Data SQL unified the data underneath a single SQL engine, preventing data silos by enabling access to all data via the same SQL engine and language. Big Data SQL has been out for nearly two years and as of March 17 2016, version 3.0 is released and this is an exciting milestone for Oracle.

Big Data SQL 3.0 comes with support for Cloudera CDH (both on Big Data Appliance and non-Big Data Appliance), Hortonworks HDP and Oracle Database 12c (both Exadata and non-Exadata) - Big Data SQL dramatically expands Oracle’s reach into the Big Data market. (see more on the announcement here).

Up until now, the requirements were simple, you could use Big Data SQL for "one fast, secure SQL query on all your data" as long as you were using Oracle Big Data Appliance to run Hadoop and Oracle Exadata to run Oracle Database. While those configurations continue, they are not required.

Big Data SQL 3.0 requires
  1. any Oracle Database 12c (EE or SE version 12.1.0.2 or higher) running Enterprise Linux and supporting Oracle Clusterware and
  2. any of the leading Apache Hadoop distributions from Cloudera and Hortonworks.
Oracle Database Version
Database Hardware
Hadoop Cluster Hardware
Hadoop Distribution and Version
12.1.0.2 or higher
Any Intel x86 64-bit system (Linux OL6, RHEL6)
Any Intel x86 64-bit system (Linux OL6, RHEL6)
CDH* 5.5 and higher
HDP† 2.3 and higher
12.1.0.2 or higher
Oracle Exadata (Linux OL6)
Oracle Big Data Appliance (Linux OL6)
CDH 5.5 and higher
* CDH: Cloudera’s Distribution Including Apache Hadoop
†HDP: Hortonworks Data Platform

Of course, Big Data SQL achieves highest performance when paired with Oracle Engineered Systems, as it takes full advantage of the power of Oracle Exadata and Oracle Big Data Appliance to create a best-in-class Big Data Management System, unifying the power of big data and Oracle Database. However, your existing commodity clusters are now an option, while Big Data SQL Cloud Service is available in combination with Oracle Database Cloud Service – Exadata Edition and Oracle Big Data Cloud Service for big data in the cloud.

Of course, version 3.0 doesn't only come with the expanded support of Hadoop and Database platforms, but also brings improved performance through new features like Predicate Push-Down on top of Smart Scan and Storage Indexes.

Try using Oracle Big Data SQL – as well as other components of Oracle’s big data platform – in Oracle Big Data Lite Virtual Machine. Big Data Lite allows you to test drive Oracle’s big data capabilities from your laptop or desktop computer. Capabilities include CDH, Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph, Oracle Big Data Discovery, Oracle Big Data Connectors, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Golden Gate and more.

A ferramenta de desenvolvimento certa para cada pessoa

Oracle Development Tools are continuously evolving. Mature and proven Oracle APEX, Oracle Forms and Oracle ADF were supplemented with brand new products as Oracle MAF for cross platform mobile development and Oracle JET which was released during the last Oracle OpenWorld 2015 for JavaScript development. Oracle Cloud Services also rapidly evolving making Oracle as Cloud Provider #1. But what about developers? Which technologies, platforms and services should they use starting the new project or considering the solution migration from other platforms to Oracle Stack? APEX? Forms? ADF? Cloud? What is the right choice? However we forgot about business users… Maybe they could also find something useful to solve their daily business tasks? So let’s consider some of Oracle Platforms and Technologies from perspective of person role and skills.

  • PL/SQL Developers PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle RDBMS. It is widely using by developers worldwide for database design and development and also in APEX and Oracle Forms platform. So for developers who are experienced and strong in PL/SQL good choice would be Oracle APEX and Oracle Forms platforms. Oracle Forms??? Yes it is still alive platform and Oracle Forms 12.2.1 was released during the latest big upgrade of Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c up to 12.2.1 release.
  • Java Developers Java is one of the most popular general-purpose programming languages with huge developers’ community. Oracle has the widest Java based Middleware Product Stack with core Java EE certified WebLogic Application Server. Along with development of pure Java EE applications, developers can fully utilize their skills using Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF). Oracle ADF is an end-to-end Java EE framework that simplifies enterprise application development by providing out-of-the-box infrastructure services, visual and declarative development experience. Along with Oracle ADF development, Java developers can use their skills for mobile development using Oracle Mobile Application Framework (MAF) for rapid development of hybrid, cross platform mobile applications which could be deployed to both Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms.

  • JavaScript Developers JavaScript is a high-level, dynamic and interpreted programming language.  Alongside HTML and CSS, it is one of the three essential technologies of web development. So which Oracle Technology experienced JavaScript developer can select? The answer is Oracle JavaScript Extension Toolkit (JET). Oracle JET is targeted at intermediate to advanced JavaScript developers working on client-side applications. It's a collection of open source JavaScript libraries along with a set of Oracle contributed JavaScript libraries that make it as simple and efficient as possible to build applications that consume and interact with Oracle products and services, specifically Oracle Cloud Services.
  • Business Users So far we’ve discussed technologies which are intended for IT professionals – software developers and engineers. What about business users? Which Oracle Platforms or Services they can use to simplify their life and responsibilities during their daily work? Oracle Application Builder Cloud Service (ABCS) and Oracle Mobile Application Accelerator (MAX). Oracle ABCS is a visually based drag and-drop application development platform that you access in your web browser (WYSIWYG UI Construction). With ABCS, users with no previous programming experience are empowered to create and extend web and mobile browser based apps on their own. Mobile Application Accelerator, as a capability in Oracle Mobile Cloud Service, enables nontechnical staff to build their own mobile applications. It allows users with no coding experience to rapidly and intuitively produce mobile applications without any coding. Find out more about Oracle MAX in Oracle MCS - Mobile Application Accelerator (MAX) Demo Video

The suggestions above are some recommendations which could help developers and business users to make right choice and to orient in a large world of Oracle Technologies and Platforms.
